The Culturama Secretariat wishes to express sincere appreciation to Kore Entertainment and the Kore Jouvert Troupe for their long standing contribution to the development and success of Culturama’s Jouvert celebration. Since their launch in 2011, the Kore Jouvert Troupe has grown into a beloved staple of Emancipation Monday, and we commend their impact on our cultural calendar.
We recognize that the primary challenge preventing Kore’s full participation this year stems from personal reasons affecting key members of their team. We empathize with their situation and remain hopeful for their full return in the future.
However, we note with concern that a public statement regarding their withdrawal was issued prior to any formal discussions with the Culturama Committee. We believe that open dialogue should always be the first step, and as such, we stand ready to engage constructively with the Kore team toward an agreement that would be in the best interest of Culturama.
We wish to clarify the following for the public for Culturama 51 (2025):
- Within the last 24 hrs the Kore Band have confirmed they will be performing on the standard Long Jam Route.
- There will be no Kore Band Long Jam Jouvert Troupe.
Importantly, the Culturama 2025 Long Jam WILL proceed as planned on Emancipation Monday, August 4th, 2025. The tradition of music, movement, and mas will continue and you can look forward to participating with the following groups:
- Gabriella’s Long Jam Posse
- Illa Masque Jouvert Troupe
- 5Trees Jouvert Troupe
We also wish to inform the public that for many years, the Culturama Committee has consistently covered all major expenses associated with local bands performing on the road — including trailer rentals, speaker systems, and logistics. While Troupe Promoters/Organizers are responsible for their own internal costs associated with Troupe Packages that are made available to the public for purchase. With these core expenses already taken care of annually, any additional matters affecting Kore’s Long Jam Troupe participation remain well within reach of a practical and mutually beneficial agreement.
Culturama remains a celebration of our shared heritage and freedom, and we are committed to preserving its vibrancy and inclusivity for all participants.
