“Today’s moments are tomorrow’s memories so make everyday last a lifetime”. Miss Shanice Powell is a jewel of the beautiful island of St. Maarten. Born in the melting pot of the Caribbean 25 years ago, Shanice is the only child of her mother.

Shanice developed a love for people hence her choice of career in the Hospitality Industry. She attributes her hard work ethic and moral values with her Caribbean upbringing and when she relocated to St. Maarten after her studies in the US, Shanice realized a very successful career as an executive assistant and event planner.

In 2012 Shanice travelled to Barcelona to develop her people management skills. Soon there after Shanice acquired her associates’ degree in the Hospitality Industry specializing in Hotel & Tourism Management at the University of St. Martin in 2013. Shanice continued with her education at the prestigious Johnson & Wales University in Miami where she was inducted into the honors society “Eta Sigma Delta” and graduated with a Bachelors degree in the Hospitality Industry specializing in Sports, Entertainment and Event Management with honors in 2015. She has been has been privileged to be chosen as an ambassador at both of her colleges. Her latest accomplishment is capturing the crown of Miss St. Maarten 2017/2018. She enjoys activities such as volleyball, planning/organizing social events, music, reading, singing in the shower and dancing.

From a young age Shanice has always loved pageantry and dreamt of one day becoming Miss St. Maarten. In 2013 she tried, though unsuccessful, she did not give up. “Every setback is a setup for a great comeback” and Shanice has proven that, when 4 years later she captured the crown to become Miss St. Maarten 2017/2018.

As an active volunteer for many years, Shanice believes in giving back and making a difference in the world around her. This happy JWU and USM Alumni volunteers countless hours for a broad spectrum of causes; such as beach clean ups, spending time with the children at the “Miami Childrens Hospital”, donating blood and serves countless hours at several other events. She’s committed to using her God’s given talents to nurture an empower those in need.

Abraham Lincoln once said “The best way to predict your future is to create it” Shanice intends to do just that. She aspires to complete her Masters in the Hospitality Industry specializing in Human Resources. She envisages herself as being a contributing factor in her community. Being a good natured and a helpful person Shanice desires to be a role model through the medium of event planning.

Shanice is excited at the possibility of representing her country. Although there are many delegates to choose from, her goal is to remain true and humble while portraying the best representation of herself and her country St. Maarten.
